March 16th Mom Wrote

March 12,

The winter is past: the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth and the time of the singing of birds has come. Song of Solomon 2:11&12

I wonder if any of you got the flower show in Phila.? Last Sat. night I was there in spirit. Channel 6 got me caught up in the beauty and excitement without fighting the crowds. I have happy memories of being part of the crowd. Now most of my traveling is "arm chair traveling". I am very thankful that I can read and enjoy reading. One of my recent finds "Twice Adopted" by Michael Reagan, oldest adopted son former Pres. Reagan. The story is about his childhood as a poor little rich boy. His parents, both movie stars, very busy, divorced when he was three years old. Money could not buy what he needed most: love. A true story that made me cry several times. In the middle of a John Grishem lawyer fiction and am glad that it is not a true story.

I enjoy hearing stories about the adventures of grandchildren: Derek hiking in the snow the week of Spring break, Jeff and his job interviews, Brandon working after a discouraging year, Alana preparing for her wedding day. Lets keep each other informed. Thanks.

Tuesday Samuel spent part of the day with me. It started snowing and looked like an old fashioned blizzard. That is when I wrote the following "Fun in the Snow".

Fun as a Child Before T.V.

Yesterday we had a beautiful spring day, temperatures in the 60’s. Today we are back to winter: blizzard like conditions, the ground is white again. Seventy years ago on a day like this I would be putting on my boots and warm coat and finding anyone ready to have a snowball battle. What fun to wash someone’s face with a snowball. When that got old we would make a snowman. Then we would get our sleds. If the snow stayed and was deep enough for sledding we would walk to school with our sleds. Now when I look at the hill at Brick Tavern I wonder how we could have had so much fun on that little slope that we called a hill.

Forty years ago some of you will remember snow tag in our big back yard. I often was eager to help make the big circles. I loved playing in the snow. How many grandchildren enjoy snow? School was never closed because of snow unless the lanes and roads were all closed. No big snow plows at this time. Roads stayed covered with snow for many days.

A snowy day was also a good day to put a big puzzle together.

Love
