May 29th Mom Wrote

Memorial Day Weekend: I will start with some memories.

My Life in 10 Year periods:

The 30’s. Early childhood, many good memories… Very little money, Lots of love, and enough food. Those school years in Brick Tavern hold many good stories. I graduated from the 8th grade, the highest in my class, so I could recite a poem at commencement for the township schools. The commencement was at the Lutheran Church in Spinnerstown. It was nothing like graduating from High School or College, but a highlight of my life.

Congratulations to our 5 graduates in 2004.

In this ten-year period I earned a little money by picking strawberries for a neighbor. One hot day I picked a little over (not sure) 108 quart boxes. I was paid 1 to 1and a half CENTS a box. O how well I remember that day! I saved enough money to buy a pair of new shoes for school.

One more thing I did in the 30’s which was a very big and beautiful decision was the day I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. My sins have been washed away and now I am a sinner saved by grace, a gift from God. Now, 60 years later I am still trying to live for him and expect to see him, maybe in this ten-year period.

This is getting too long. I will skip the 40’s & 50’s. There is too much to write about and I don’t want to be boring you.

This holiday we remember those whom we loved and have passed on. In the 10-year period of the 70’s both of my parents, both Rosenberger parents, plus my sister Ruth left us. Five of our children married. Bill made a new kitchen for us. We ate a lot of dust in 1978 but I loved the results.

In the 80’s our family was growing fast. 14 grandchildren were born in this 10-year period. My heart valve need to be replaced. It was a big deal in the 80’s but has been ticking ever since. My friend Arthur moved in gradually and now refuses to leave. We had two more weddings. I enjoyed all of them. I also had a once in a lifetime Balloon Ride.

Big changes in the 90’s. Selling of property, buying in at Souderton Home and getting ready to move. Labor Day weekend 1993 I moved to Souderton. I think it was a good move. I love living here. I never have to be alone, I have many friends but I also just like to be alone and read a book. My quilt is in the frame in front of me. If I would have worked on it this last hour instead of trying to write this e-mail it might be almost finished.

So long, have a great summer. See you at the Geissinger Reunion on Father’s Day.

Love you all,

Mom

PS: from the typist:

With a little prodding Mom might fill in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. I know that I would not be bored and would love to hear it. Let her know you want to hear it too.
